Senior Pastor

Greetings to our new Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Peace to you and may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. We are looking forward with great anticipation to the time when we can share the ministry of Jesus Christ with you in person. We want you to know that we already feel blessed to have been appointed by Bishop Dyck to Dixon First.
First, I thought that it would be important to let you know a little about our family. Jody and I have 6 children. We are a blended family. Our oldest Ashley, is married living in Grand Detour, IL. She and her husband Nate have two daughters, Maddison and Carly. Our Son Kyle is married and lives in St. Louis with his wife Katie. They are expecting their first child in November. Then there are the twins, Cooper and Keaton. Cooper, lives in Bolder Colorado and will graduate from Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in May. Keaton runs the shipping and receiving department for C & C Power Co. in Carol Stream, IL. He lives in the Chicago area. Our daughter Cayli is married and lives in Mt. Morris. Finally, there is Grace. She is graduating from 8th grade this June and is looking forward to going to high school in Dixon in the fall. She is very active in sports; Softball, Basketball and Golf. Grace enjoys playing the violin, guitar, piano and whatever other instrument she decides to teach herself to play.
As soon as we get settled in at the parsonage, Jody will begin babysitting our two granddaughters, Maddison and Carly. I am a second career pastor. I worked in the printing industry before following God’s call into the ministry. My father was part of a family-owned printing company, so I grew up in the printing industry. Officially, I started working for my father when I was in high school. When I was little, there were many Saturday mornings that I swept and cleaned the shop while he did billing. Shortly after my father’s death, I went to college and majored in printing and industrial engineering. After 15 years with a printing company in Rochelle, Illinois, the last 8 as plant manager, I heard God’s call to enter the ministry. In 1997, I began as a Student Local Pastor at Franklin Grove UMC while attending The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. In 2004 I was ordained an Elder in the Northern Illinois Conference and we were appointed to Peotone UMC. Since 2010 we have been serving at First UMC of West Chicago.
There is so much more to tell you about my family, myself and my vision for the Church that I have decided to jump into the blogging world. As we prepare to enter into ministry together I think it is important for you to know who I am and what I believe. I invite you to check out my blog, Before The Sun Rises at tjmitchell459.wordpress.com Also, I believe that personal testimonies are one of the most powerful ways to help others come to know our Risen Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. So, I look forward to sharing more of my story with you during our worship times.
We are looking forward to many years of good ministry together. My prayer for the coming weeks of preparation is that we all seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We look forward to meeting all of you when we start our ministry together on July 1.
Blessings to you and your family from my family and me,
Pastor Tim
