Pastor’s Newsletter Article for September 2025

Greetings, in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

September is here! Our children are back in school! Life is finding its next new rhythm. How are you doing? Do you feel harried, rushed, and maybe overwhelmed? Or are you cool as a cucumber? (and yes, that phrase comes to mind because of all the cucumbers on our God’s Garden table! LOL!).

When life feels out of balance, I’m reminded of two powerful Scriptures: The first is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The second, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” These two passages remind me to turn to God when life gets out of balance. To trust in God’s guidance and strength to help me find my temporary or maybe even new normal.

Recently, we have been studying the book of Hebrews. We talked about living a life of perseverance so that we could run our race of life with joy. Hebrews 12:1-2a reminds us how we run the race with perseverance. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Jesus is the way! If we keep our eyes on Jesus, we will make it through! Jesus is our strength and our companion for the journey!  Hebrews also reminds us that we need other believers walking with us. That is why being an active part of our congregation is critical to living a life of Joy.

Speaking of finding Joy, it is time for our Children’s Sunday school program, Powerhouse Kids (PHK), to start back up. I love to interact with our children and youth. It is a joy and a privilege to watch our children grow in their faith. We talk about being a Family church where we want families to thrive and flourish.

To that end, because we have been unable to find a Youth Ministries Director to lead Powerhouse Kids, we will need to make some adjustments. I will be taking 10-12 minutes at the beginning of the Sunday worship service to talk to and teach our children. Once I am done with our children’s time, they will either return to their parents with an activity bag full of activities that follow my teaching time, or they will go with PHK servants(volunteers) to continue PHK. Our first Children’s time will be Sunday, September 7th. We will continue to search for a Part-time Youth Ministries Director. We need PHK servants to provide opportunities for our children to grow their faith. Please pray and volunteer your heart and your time to help our children grow!

Beginning September 1st, we will bring back Dixon First Reads Together as we read through the Gospels. Each day you will read one chapter of a Gospel, starting with Matthew and ending with John on November 30th. Supplemental to reading a chapter in the Gospel, I encourage you to go to Seedbed.com for the Wakeup call. There you will find a devotional based on that chapter.

Remember, when a church reads together, it grows together.

Let’s grow together!
