NO FEAR: Overcoming the Fear of the Unknown

Series Theme: Everyone worries about something. We all have things we fear. But while fear is a
persistent companion, we don’t have to be controlled by it. Through this series we will learn how to
address our fears, control them, learn from them, even use them, and we can press through them.
We’ll also consider scripture passages about fear and the spiritual practices than can bring real peace.

Theme Verse:
Deuteronomy 31:6 NRSV   “Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them,
because it is the LORD your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”

Message Theme: The fear of the unknown can be a powerful and debilitating fear. We can lose
our ability to think rationally if we let our anxiety control our minds. Through the use of the
acronym FEAR we can learn to control this fear and live life in the fullness of God.

Scripture: Revelation 21:1-6 NIV
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed
away, and there was no longer any sea.  2  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of
heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  3  And I heard a loud
voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will
dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  4  ‘He
will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for
the old order of things has passed away.”
5  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this
down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6  He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the
thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Memorization Verse: Psalm 23:4 NIV
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me.”
