Sermon Notes: 2019-02-17 – Fear of Loneliness

NO FEAR: Overcoming the Fear of Loneliness

Series Theme: Everyone worries about something. We all have things we fear. But
while fear is a persistent companion, we don’t have to be controlled by it. Through
this series we will learn how to address our fears, control them, learn from them, even
use them, and we can press through them. We’ll also consider scripture passages
about fear and the spiritual practices than can bring real peace.

Theme Verse: Deuteronomy 31:6 NRSV   “Be strong and bold; have no fear or
dread of them, because it is the LORD your God who goes with you; he will not fail
you or forsake you.”

Message Theme: There is a difference between loneliness and solitude. ‘“Loneliness’
expresses the pain of feeling alone, whereas ‘solitude’ expresses the joy of being alone.”

John T. Cacioppo, Ph.D. Isolation is one of our most prevalent crisis today. It has the possibility to harm people’s lives just as obesity or substance abuse do.

Memorization Verse: Psalm 139:3 “ You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”
